Factoring may be the most challenging part of learning Algebra.

It’s certainly a really important part of it.

Factoring is one of those things that just keeps coming back up later in the course and in Algebra 2 and beyond.

So, it’s important to get a good understanding of it…so that it doesn’t keep giving you grief!

Teaching Methods

One of the really difficult things is that if you look online for help with factoring, there are LOTS of different ways that teachers teach it!

Finding the same method as your teacher can be hard, but so can trying to learn it a different way when you didn’t understand it in the first place!

Mrs. Kennedy’s Way

I have taught factoring lots of ways (guess-and-check, tictacfac, x-games, …), but I now teach factoring using the grouping method.

This is how you’ll need to factor when you get to Algebra 2, so I find that it’s easier to learn ONE way and not have to re-learn it later!

Here are a couple of examples of this factoring method.
