How to solve simple Algebra problems?
Most of us would agree that there may not be any such thing as a “simple” Algebra problem!
But, we do have to start somewhere…
Solving a one step equation is a great place to begin.

Find the Variable
A variable is just a letter that’s used like a question mark…if the problem is…
x + 3 = 7
…that means What plus 3 equals 7?
When you’re looking for the variable, remember it can be any letter, although x is the most commonly used letter.
Read That Side of the Equation
An equation has an equals sign in it.
=
Look at the side that has the variable and read it to yourself. Here’s an example:
x – 14 = 80
You would read the left side of the equation as “x minus 14.”
Do the Opposite
Because you said “minus 14” that means you’ll add 14.
80 + 14 = 94
So, x = 94
(Makes sense, because 94 – 14 = 80.)
