Finding math puzzles for critical thinking doesn’t have to challenging!  You’re in the right place.

I love creating these and sharing them with parents to do with their teens.

A Random Reason Why I Love Teaching Math

In math, there is almost always a right answer!

Remember in high school when you had to interpret the symbolism in literature?  Yeah, I was always terrible at that.

The candle in the window that I thought represented hope…apparently, that candle was supposed to show that the person’s flame was being snuffed out….or something.😂

For me, it’s reassuring in math that there’s an answer that just is–not because of someone’s opinions or feelings.

The math challenge, below, has right answers…but the nice thing is that there may be different ways to find them!

If it’s hard to come up with some of these, first of all, understand that’s okay!

It’s not supposed to be simple!

Send this puzzle to your teen or pull it up sometime when you’re sitting together and have a moment.

  • Try to talk through it together.
  • Where do you think is a good place to start?
  • What do you notice that might be important in figuring out the answers?

If you get stuck, here are some tips for getting started:

Remember to give yourself “thinking time” before you keep reading!

Your brain needs time to process and problem solve.

Ok…here’s a hint:

I’m posting the solutions at the bottom to give you another moment to think and reason your way through this one!

Try some numbers and just see if they work!

If they don’t work, do you think your next guess should be larger or smaller numbers?

Problem solving is not a race!  Take your time and enjoy the process.

You’ve got this!
