One of the activities we do in my Critical Thinking Builder class is to look at 6 “random” images and make a plan for how to connect all of them…in sort of a string.

This can be a story, with a sequence.

But primarily, it’s deciding which image to start with and connect it to another image based on just about any logical connection (size, shape, use, color, location, etc.).

Then you connect that second image to a third…and so on. Figure out how to do this so that you string all 6 images together in some way.

What does this have to do with critical thinking?

Lots.

The planning involved is important.

Reasoning is used to make the connections and using your own background knowledge is using inference.

Try it with your teen.

Have fun and don’t rush the process.

You might get part of the way and have to start over…or back up to a previous image…that’s okay!

Critical thinking involves taking the time to work through a problem…and communicate it well to each other!
